A predicted 91,000 new jobs are expected to be created in the next five years, bringing the total workforce to over 970,000 people. Australians have a growing appetite for high quality food and drink, and they love going out. With the number of bars, restaurants and cafes growing all the time, the industry needs strong managers who can lead the way and provide top level service. Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Hospitality Management provides in-demand hospitality management skills for success in an industry with unlimited potential for career advancement.

A fast-track to the top

Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Hospitality Management teaches everything you’ll need, from making great coffee to developing leadership skills and managing a business’s budget. You’ll also earn your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, readying you for bar work. You will be taught by industry-qualified professionals in modern, state-of-the-art facilities including an operational restaurant and fully-equipped training bar. Learn in facilities featured on Masterchef and The Great Australian Bake-Off, work a kitchen alongside master chefs, such as Jarrod di Blasi and Donovan Cooke and put your skills to the test for real events, earning valued experience while you’re still studying

Ready for the floor

Graduates will have the skills and experience to either enter the industry in a supervisory role, or level-up on existing industry experience with further study. You may find employment at the operational and managerial level and pursue further management career opportunities in the general hospitality industry, including hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality establishments, including resorts, function centres and even cruise ships. This diploma is widely recognised as a perfect leg-up into a dynamic and growing industry.

Displayed course fees are indicative only. There are many variables that impact the total amount of your full course costs including qualification for government subsidies, concessions or recognition of prior learning. Tuition fees do not include the cost of student amenities or material costs.

Melbourne Polytechnic offers a range of payment options to help you pay your tuition fees, so you can get on with your studies.

Fees displayed are effective for new applications received on or after 1st of November. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or overseas student health insurance and visa fees.

After initial deposit, international students are able to pay tuition fees in installments, four times per year.

Fees explained

The State Government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition (excluding Amenities Fees and Materials Fees) for students who are eligible for government subsidised training and enrol into one of the Priority listed course.

Free TAFE is available to eligible students for one course enrolment in a lifetime.

Free TAFE places are limited. Please call 1300 635 276 and we can advise you whether Free TAFE places are still available.

Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition fees for students who are eligible. Materials and amenities may still apply.

The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative will pay your tuition fees for only one course. Once you have commenced in a tuition-free priority course, you are not eligible for further tuition-free places again, even if you do not finish your first tuition-free priority course.

Additional expenses

The Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged at forty cents (40 cents) per student contact hour and is capped over a twelve (12) month period, effective from the enrolment date, to:

$250 for full fee-paying students; and
$175 for concession-paying students studying Certificate I, II, III, or IV.

Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.

Textbooks and workbooks are provided in tuition fees.

Hospitality Stream: A food and beverage (waiter's) uniform will also need to be purchased at an approximate cost of $130.

Cookery and Patisserie Stream: A chef’s uniform and tool kit will also need to be purchased at an approximate cost of $450.

Textbooks and workbooks are provided in tuition fees. Depending on your stream or Certificate IV program chosen you would need to purchase a uniform and equipment/tools.
