Take your Auslan skills to the top with Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Auslan PSP51018. This accredited diploma will bring your Auslan skills together to help you communicate at an advanced and professional level with Deaf and hard of hearing people. Employment opportunities using Auslan are increasing and are necessary across a broad range of industries, from the disability sector to entertainment.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Auslan PSP51018 is an advanced language course, combining all of the skills you’ve learned throughout our unique Auslan pathway. As you advance your skills, you’ll develop further skills and understanding of social and educational conditions for the Australian Deaf community. Melbourne Polytechnic has a long history within the disability sector, and as Victoria’s sole provider of this accredited pathway to learning Auslan, you will have opportunities to participate in Deaf community-based activities and events with our industry partners. This will include an Immersion Program with Expression Australia which will give your real-world experience that will increase your employability before you even graduate.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Auslan PSP51018 is accredited to enable you to work in educational institutions, government, performing arts and a wide range of other situations involving the Deaf community. You could also move into further study and enter specialised sectors, including aged care, early intervention, DeafBlind support, employment consultancy or counselling.
We are excited to let you know that all on-campus face-to-face classes will be located at our Melbourne Polytechnic Collingwood Campus by July 2024. This is a dedicated, state-of-the-art Auslan space, based on DeafSpace principles pioneered by Gallaudet University in the USA. It provides a rich sensory experience around the unique needs of Deaf people and includes architectural design elements that optimise the teaching and learning of Auslan. Successful completion of the Diploma of Auslan PSP51018 allows you to take your studies of Auslan further in interpreting, or learning international sign languages. Many students upon completion of the Diploma of Auslan PSP51018 transition to the Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE - English) PSP50916.

Fees displayed are effective for new applications received on or after 1st of November. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or overseas student health insurance and visa fees.
After initial deposit, international students are able to pay tuition fees in installments, four times per year.

The State Government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition (excluding Amenities Fees and Materials Fees) for students who are eligible for government subsidised training and enrol into one of the Priority listed course.
Free TAFE is available to eligible students for one course enrolment in a lifetime.

Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition fees for students who are eligible. Materials and amenities may still apply.
The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative will pay your tuition fees for only one course. Once you have commenced in a tuition-free priority course, you are not eligible for further tuition-free places again, even if you do not finish your first tuition-free priority course.

The Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged at forty cents (40 cents) per student contact hour and is capped over a twelve (12) month period, effective from the enrolment date, to:

It is a mandatory government requirement for all prospective students to complete an online literacy and numeracy assessment. Once you are ready to enrol, you will be invited to attend of our Skills and Job Centres, or come to campus to complete your enrolment in person.
