Graduates from Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate III in Individual Support CHC33021 (Ageing and Disability) and can expect strong career prospects in this consistently growing sector.
The Melbourne Polytechnic program meets the requirements for the specialisation Certificate III in Individual Support CHC33021 (Ageing and Disability). You willl be qualified to work with older people in home and community care and residential aged care, as well as with NDIS participants, people with disability in home and community care and those living is supported residential accommodation.
Our course is designed to provide quality training in individual support across the ageing and aged care and disability sectors with a program delivered by highly experienced staff in hands-on settings. You will also develop the professional and personal qualities required to provide high quality care to those who need it most.
Melbourne Polytechnic provides fully-equipped practical learning spaces, including a state-of-the-art simulation room. Our industry connections mean that you will also receive practical experience with a supervised industry placement, so you’re ready to enter the industry with confidence.
You will be qualified to work in an aged care facility or in the Home and Community Care Sector.
Graduates of the Certificate III in Individual Support CHC33021 (Ageing and Disability) may be able to enrol in the Certificate IV in Disability CHC43121, the Certificate IV in Community Services CHC42021, a Certificate IV in Ageing Support CHC43015 or a Certificate IV in Leisure and Health CHC43415.
You must complete a total of 140 hours of placement, 80 hours in an aged care and 60 hours in a disability service.
The program includes one additional optional unit Provide First Aid HLTAID011.

The State Government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition (excluding Amenities Fees and Materials Fees) for students who are eligible for government subsidised training and enrol into one of the Priority listed course.
Free TAFE is available to eligible students for one course enrolment in a lifetime.

Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition fees for students who are eligible. Materials and amenities may still apply.
The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative will pay your tuition fees for only one course. Once you have commenced in a tuition-free priority course, you are not eligible for further tuition-free places again, even if you do not finish your first tuition-free priority course.

Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.
You may apply directly into the qualification without prior experience or training.
Practical and Manual Handling Requirements
The unit HLTAID011 Provide First Aid requires students to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
Additional units require students to demonstrate and complete manual handling tasks. This includes but is not limited to the capacity to reposition clients in wheelchairs, push wheelchairs, use hoists, put clients into slings, turn a patient using a slide sheet, use a standing machine and walking with clients who use crutches or wheelie frames who may fall and be unable to weight bear properly.
Ageing and Disability Sector Industry Placement Entry Requirements

All potential learners will undertake a pre-training review and a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to determine your suitability for the course.
