Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate II in Engineering MEM20105 (Jewellery specialisation) is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to acquire fundamental hand skills and jewellery making techniques to boost confidence, take your hobby to the next level or increase your chances of gaining a jewellery apprenticeship.
This unique part time jewellery course is designed to deliver a strong skill set in jewellery making whilst enabling participants to juggle study commitments with work and for parents of school aged children to explore and develop their passion and proficiency for jewellery design and making.
You’ll gain fundamental knowledge from an array of experienced trade professionals within the exciting industry of jewellery making. Study techniques at Melbourne Polytechnic’s dedicated Jewellery Centre, a facility that is highly-regarded for its fully-equipped work space and quality materials.
You’ll learn adaptable skills in ring manufacturing, chain manufacturing, casting applications, gemmology studies, and traditional repairs. Melbourne Polytechnic has an excellent reputation for jewellery and object design, with students winning a number of industry-recognised and prestigious awards including the JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards, WorldSkills competition, Nationwide Jewellers’ Apprentice of the Year, Design Institute of Australia’s Graduate of the Year and even the Lord Coconut Melbourne Cufflink Prize.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate II in Engineering MEM20105 (Jewellery specialisation) will allow anyone to craft their fundamental jewellery skills to continue as a jewellery hobbyist or advance their studies within a future apprenticeship. As a qualified jewellery manufacturer, you might find work within a range of practices within the jewellery field, including working with basic repairs, polishing and finishing products and basic manufacturing.
You will be prepared for work in the Jewellery industry working on basic repairs, polishing and finishing and basic manufacturing. You will also be qualified in refined jewellery techniques as a hobby jeweller, keen to further develop your jewellery skills.
You may progress to further studies in Melbourne Polytechnic's Certificate III in Jewellery Manufacture MEM30619 (Apprenticeship or Non-Apprentice stream) and Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design MEM60222.

The Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged at forty cents (40 cents) per student contact hour and is capped over a twelve (12) month period, effective from the enrolment date, to:
Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.
All materials and tools are provided. Timetables will be provided at course induction or class enrolment by the teaching department.
It is recommended you provide a set of safety glasses and a sturdy apron of either cotton or leather (no polyester).
